Welcome to the Worcester Diocesan Youth Council Website.
The WDYC is a group of young Christians, between 14 and 25, who are committed to creating opportunities for the young people of the diocese, enabling them to share and explore their faith in a variety of ways. We hail from all corners of the diocese, as far north as Dudley and as far south as Evesham, raising the profile of young people throughout the 671 square miles that the diocese encompasses.
We work to make the church more inclusive and a place where everyone, regardless of their age, has the power to make a difference in everyday church life. This can be done in a variety of ways, from establishing an all age worship service to involving young people in church council meetings. As Paul said, ‘Do not let anyone treat you as if you are unimportant because you are young. Instead, be an example to the believers with your words, your actions, your love, your faith and your pure life’ (1 Timothy 4:12).
As well as all of this, the WDYC also put on regular events to encourage and strengthen the youth of the diocese with diverse and original ideas.
‘Rock the Cathedral’ saw over 350 people attend the thousand year old Cathedral in Worcester for an event that included five live bands, guest speakers, dramatic performance, a juggling station, prayer zone, the breath meditation area and an adult crèche –complete with mini golf. The event was designed to eradicate the misconception that church is boring and demonstrate what being a young Christian in the twenty-first century is really about. Music from bands such as the Liverpool based rockers ‘Finchley’ and a talk from Bishop John, the new Bishop of Worcester, gave the audience a fantastic variety of entertainment throughout the evening.
Over recent years the WDYC have organised days aimed at newly confirmed young people, enabling them to continue their spiritual growth with Christians of their own age in a fun and challenging way. A number of places, including The Old Palace and Hartlebury Castle, have hosted ‘Walk the Walk’ and have glimpsed insights into the lives of visitors such as former child soldier and now internationally-acclaimed artist, Ben Okafor.
Other events include weekends for team-building and leadership training at venues such as Holland House, Viney Hill Christian Adventure Centre and The Far Forest Centre.
The WDYC is open to anyone between the ages of 14 and 25 who would like to get involved in youth work, organising events or just having a good laugh with a group of fantastic people. If you would like to join the WDYC or want more information on what we do please get in touch:
